The worst thing that can happen in your job is getting stuck. Feeling stagnant in your everyday work and not climbing the ladder within your company might mean that it is time to move on. But how do you know when it is time to quit? Are you just impatient or is your work really becoming mindless for you? Here are some things to consider.

Make sure that you have truly exhausted your role in that job before you get up and leave. Have you learned everything in your industry or that particular company you work at? Were you promised mobility over 4 months ago and still haven’t seen any change in your job description? If you are bored and your eyes haven’t sparkled at the idea of any new assignment lately then it might be time for you to pack up and move on.

Secondly, consider getting out if your job is poisonous. Most people don’t care for their jobs but to some people their job can be lethal. If you are depressed, always have headaches or illnesses, have turned to drugs and alcohol or considered harming yourself, then you need to get out now! The stress and depression aren’t worth staying with a job in the long run.

One of the huge problems with jobs nowadays is the amount of time we spend chained to the office. If your work is interfering with your quality of life then you need to consider finding a new job. No one should spend fourteen hours a day glued to their desk. When your job forces you to start missing your son’s basketball game or valuable family time then you might need to reevaluate your job.

It might be time to move on if you get a better job offer. If the offer is for more money, more responsibility or takes you in a new direction that you want to go then you should definitely consider it. Just remember that the grass isn’t always greener. Try to evaluate leaving your current job and weigh the pros and cons of the situation. Only you know in your gut if you are miserable in your job and only you can be the one to change that.
